[Avenue Vine] Bob Steinhauer, viticulturist at Foster's Wine Estates Americas, called the 2005 growing season "a dogfight from start to finish." The growing season started with a wet winter, especially on the North Coast, followed by a long, cool growing season that left many grape growers fighting mildew and botrytis. Cool weather in September and October, however, provided ideal conditions for grape growers.
