Wine Wine for Wiener Schnitzel?
[Spittoon - wine news and tasting notes.] a white as Wiener Schnitzel is basically veal in breadcrumbs. Grüner Veltliner is Austria's own unique variety but a Sauvignon Blanc or an Italian white would work just as well.

WBW#11: " Get Off (dry)" or...
[Culinary Fool] As soon as we had anchored the boat, I passed out the information sheets I had prepared (this was not a double-blind tasting - I just wanted to see reactions without people knowing which wine was which), bagged up and opened the wines and preceded to pour.

Picture This, Or Not
[1000 Bars] The back of the bar faces out onto 36th Street and two windows, the lower half with rippled glass, look out upon it. You cant really see much though because orange awnings cover most of the clear top part, just a narrow strip gives you a view of the top of the occasional passing truck.

WTN: 2002 Weingut Albert Gessinger Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese, 2-star
[An Obsession with Food] The Wine News - I recently discovered this magazine, and even more recently started getting articles published in it. The articles provide good coverage of topics, and I love the fact that they tell readers to take their scores with a grain of salt, that they are not the results of some exact science, but the impressions of the person tasting the wines

Wine Blogging Wednesday no. 11 - Off-dry with Moscato D'Asti
[the delicious life] . If you're painting your kitchen or placing an order for a pique polo from J. Crew, that means not quite stark, sterile hospital white. More like a softer ecru, or egg-shell. Sort of cream, but not as yellow. I know what off-white is.

WBW - The Results.
[Spittoon - wine news and tasting notes.] 24 wines from around the world compiled expertly by Beau of Basic Juice. The Off-Dry theme seems to have perplexed a few people perhaps because many wines do not mention they are 'off' to any degree, which may explain the absence of any New World Chardonnays.

Wine Blogging Wednesday 11: Off-Dry Whites.
[Spittoon - wine news and tasting notes.] What was essentially a rather uninspiring wine was so much improved with the food. Hidden depths of flavour were revealed, the sweet wine brought out an orange edge, the herby quality was emphasised via the tarragon and the acidity did cope with the black pudding.

1994 Zind Humbrecht "Heimbourg" Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive, Turkheim, Alsace
[Vinography: a wine blog] The father and son operation has been in existence since 1959 when the marriage of the Zind and Humbrecht families brought together a passion for winemaking and some of the best land in Alsace under one roof. Leonard Humbrecht and his son Olivier (notable for being France's first Master of Wine) churn out a staggering number and variety of wines of exceptional quality from their various Grand Cru and name designated vineyards.

WBW #11: Get Off! (dry)
[Cuisine Capers] This wine has many characteristics of a Ridge Zin - intense flavor, high alcohol content, and deep color. But the Late Harvest grapes give it a nearly but not quite port-like consistency without the almost cloying sweetness.

2000 JM Boillot Puligny Montrachet
[The Silk Road of Wine] Not only did it complement the meal (Florida red grouper chowder, California bass with wild mushroom pancake and saffron beurre blanc), it significantly enhanced it by bringing out several underlying flavors that were hiding just beneath the surface. The rich flavor of the wine's lemon fruit and toasted oak notes worked wonders -- highly recommended and a good price point ($50-60) for an upscale restaurant's wine list.

2003 Vintage Coonawarra Majella Sparkling Shiraz
[Becks & Posh] I admit this was a little bit confusing to me, I am not sure I was quite ready for advanced wine tasting, but I am not one to run away from a challenge so I decided to have a stab at it. Since Beau metioned Shiraz amongst the list of acceptable wines for this assignment, I decided it was a great time to try one of the wines I had read about in an intriguing San Francisco Chronicle article about sparkling reds.

Winecast 27 - A Tale of Two Pinots
[Winecast] Thankfully, the wine did not see any oak and was not subjected to the rigors of malolactic fermentation, so I expected it to be full in fruit flavors with a nice dose of acidity making this a good match for shellfish (oysters, anyone?!)This wine was also shy on the color with a bit of the old yellow/green, but had a much more powerful citrus nose than the previous Grigio.
