Reminder: It's Wine Lent
[Basic Juice - the wine blog for my generation] A reminder to all the pious Juiceites out there. Don't forget to drink juice of the rarer grapes this weekend, and all month long.

Oaked Blanc
[Winemonger.com / Winemonger Talk] That tastes like a 2-day old open tin of pineapple chunks.” In other words, I didnt think the inherent citrus and vegetal qualities of Sauvignon Blanc were well suited to the toasty oak treatment. However, one lesser known barrique-aged Sauvignon Blanc caused me to rethink my position on oak and Sauvignon - Sabathis ”Merveilleux Sauvignon Blanc 2002.

[Italy Wine Gourmet Food Fashion Hotels B & B and Travel Destinations] An Austrian company has taken a lesson from the book of success written by American Businesses, “How to effectively make money through false advertising.” In order to get around EU laws protecting quality products and trademarks the Rich Corporation purchased grapes grown in the Prosecco region of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano and created a wine spitzer carefully naming it, “Sparkling beverage.”

Get Down w/The Juice Crew
[Basic Juice - the wine blog for my generation] I would like to offer 25 of you the chance to help me produce the inaugural vintage of Basic Juice Red (BJR - we can work on a catchier name later), a 3-varietal blend (Grenache, Syrah, Petit Sirah) from the Eaglepoint vineyard in Mendocino, Northern California. If you can commit to purchasing one case of wine (at ~$18/bottle) then you'll be able to participate in producing a barrel-full of blog-powered wine.

Lent List
[Basic Juice - the wine blog for my generation] My wine lent list thus far: Jeriko Estate Sangiovese 2003 ($16-$20) - I'm surprised at how often I enjoy Italians raised in California. This Mendocino red, while powerful, offers a little bit of complexity.

The 2006 St. Emilion Classification Released
[Vinography: A Wine Blog] Every ten years, a cabal of wine officials gets together to decide who is good, who is better, and who is best in a little town on the North side of the Dordogne River in the Bordeaux region of France. The "Right Bank" as it is affectionately known, is home to the town and appellation of Saint Emilion, which today was "reclassified" to determine the best wine estates in the appellation.

[LENNDEVOURS] I've not met Sam yet (we missed one another when I was in San Francisco in June) but anyone who reads her always fun and entertaining blog knows, the girl loves her Champagne. That's Champagne with a capital C, not sparkling wine.

[Winexpression] The ban of liquids on planes in the U.S. is already hurting sales from some wineries. Normally, visitors to California’s wine regions buy a few souvenir bottles, and carry them on the plane when they head home, which is especially important if they live in a state that still doesn’t allow direct shipping.
