Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay 2007
[Winorama] This year the Bin 311 is “all Orange”, and it does not shine for me as much as last year’s Tumbarumba release. Perhaps too much skin and bones, although it could turn into something beautiful.

South Continent Pinot Noir: The Instant Glow
[The Wine House San Francisco] Yet some guy walks in and pours a glass, and youre looking at him thinking “Where did you come from?” From the Bio Bio Valley in Chile (further south and cooler than the famous regions of Maipo and Casablanca) comes one of the most exciting sub $20 Pinot Noirs Ive tasted in a long time. Where Im normally looking for price points that are acceptable under $20 with this grape variety, this wine is impressive-delicious and more suited to the company of $30 dollar wines.

Edna Valley Vineyard - 2006 Pinot Noir
![]()
[Gabe's View] As is typical of Pinot Noir made in a Burgundian style this wine will marry well with a wide array of foods. I personally find well made Pinot to be one of the most adaptable wines out there.

Page Cellars "Preface" Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
[Just Grapes] Page built this fascinatingly elegent Cabernet from Washington grapes of the Red Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area). I'm a sucker for the concentration often seen from high altitude grapes -which is a result of oxygen deprivation .

An Austrailian Shiraz
[Wine Connections] The Aramis Vineyards Shiraz was less of a fruit-bomb than the Layer Cake I had already had. The Layer Cake is made from Shiraz grapes from a different Southeast Australian region, the Barossa.

Interview: Wine ”antisnob Tim Hanni
[Grape Wall of China] The simplest experiment is to try a stronger tasting red wine, such as a Bordeaux or Cabernet Sauvignon, take a small taste of lemon and salt - as you would with tequila, though not quite so much lemon and salt - and then try the wine again. It will become soft and smooth.

Legal absinth market grows in US
Last week I was asked to write a review about Buy Absinthe. Their website features a variety of top quality absinthe and special accessories which are essential for performing the absinthe ritual. This includes the fine brands of Lemercier, Versinte, Absente and Rodniks as well as spoons and accessories that you can order. Instead of writing a deep review I did a crawl about absinthe related topics. Don't miss the have a look at the absinthe blog too.

Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1899: Absinthe lollipops
[Slashfood] A small candy company in (where else?) San Francisco has created absinthe lollipops. According to its website, the inspiration for these grown-up treats came around Halloween last year, "When we found ourselves with a lot of absinthe and no candy."

Edna Valley Vineyard Paragon Chardonnay 2006
[Cheap Fun Wines] Let me start by mentioning that I am usually wary of $12-$16 California chardonnay. I like to go cheaper or more expensive because in this range they are often too creamy, too fat, too manipulated with oak chips and god knows what else.

Finally a Chardonnay I Like: Yalumba Unwooded
[Wine Peeps] One of the reasons that Chardonnay is so common is that it is a very versatile grape that grows well in many places throughout the world. Chardonnay grapes themselves have fairly neutral flavors which is why I believe many winemakers tend to over-oak their Chardonnays in an effort to get something out of them.

Voyager Estate Cabernet Merlot 2004
[Winorama] Strong and ripe with blackberry, cherry, dark chocolate, violet, some eucalyptus and a good measure of cedar/vanilla oak. On the palate full bodied and generous with flavours of cherry, plum and mulberry, some chocolate richness, a bit of floral mouth perfume, a little tobacco savouriness and sweet vanilla oak in support.

NY Wine Expo 2008
[Red Is Life] D Cubed Cellars - Late Harvest Zinfandel - 2005 - this is a WOW - because its different - very sweet - lots of acid - on the thin side versus the traditional late harvest which runs to syrup - the wine-maker likens it to Zinfandel infected with Botrytris - seek it out - âââ

Chardonnay--no oak
[Chowhound's Latest » Wine] Forgeron Cellars is about the only winery that I know of that sells out of their Chardonnay and with each new vintage they increase production. The reason is the winemaker is from France and apprenticed in the Burgundy region.
