2005 Michael-David Vineyards Zinfandel 7 Deadly Zins

[CellarTracker Tasting Notes (all notes)] Primarily dark fruits (blackberry and plum) on the nose, with toasty vanilla aromas. Pallate is very fruit-forward with sweet oak, licorice and very soft tannins (possibly too soft to be considered in balance).

[CellarTracker Tasting Notes (all notes)] This one, sourced from regional non-estate vineyards, should retail some $10 - $12 lower than the estate version at $18 or thereabouts. Absolute text book zin if you follow oft used descriptors of cheaper Californian zins: heaps of sweet, heady fruit, and masses of fruit cake like flavour.

[Drink What YOU Like] Our ”˜pre-winter, cold weather, perfect for chili night’ included the Napa Wine Company Zinfandel and the Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel. Ideally I would have picked two Zins in the same vintage, but I wanted to try both of these wines since they are at opposite ends of the viticulture spectrum - Napa Wine Company uses certified organic grapes and Bogle is a big box producer.

2002 Schulz Zinfandel Johanne

[CellarTracker Tasting Notes (all notes)] Nose of sweet berry jam, spice, tar, oak, pepper, alcohol, a little meatiness, and some more oak. In the mouth big fruity spicy berry on the attack, a hollow midpalate, and a fairly short finish spiked with alcohol and an extended burning aftertaste of oak.

2007 King Shag Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
