[food, wine, beer, culture] Slovenian Wines: Wines worth seeking out ”” food, wine, beer, culture: wines from the Pullus portfolio.  The initial Pinot Grigio was striking, it was a really good wine.  Though initially a bit chilled, after a few minutes in the glass some real solid fresh fruit aromas escaped, giving aromas of ripe pears, fresh and sweet light fruits while being backed up with just enough acidity to ensure the fruit flavors were not overly sweet.  This is the kind of wine you might want to have a few bottles of, just in case of spontaneous company.  That said, this wine was followed by one of the best testing Sauvignon blanc I’ve ever had.  The tropical fruit aromas were so fresh and clean, with passion fruit, pineapple and guava coming through clear as day.  The wine itself again had a near perfect balance of acid, residual sugars, flavor and aroma.  Drinking this wine, I immediately imagined a hot summer day, grilling up some fresh trout or rockfish with a side of grilled asparagus topped with shaved manchego cheese.  That would be a fantastic pairing and a great dinner with friends, a bottle of Pullus Sauvignon blanc and grilled fish?  Let me know when you’re hosting the party.
