Gourmets of Wine > A beefed up M&S offering.
[Spittoon - wine news and tasting notes.] A beefed up M&S offering. Not often I look at the main supermarket online offerings so was greatly pleased by an email altering me to the expanded online offerings from Marks & Spencer. From the lacklustre offerings of recent times the range available online now reaches the dizzy heights of 50 wines! I shouldn't knock it though - the wines, although all own-label, are of very good quality from excellent producers. Just do not go looking for anything 'safe' and 'familiar'. This bank holiday weekend they are offering some excellent savings. These range from 33% off new wines to 36% off their Chablis and 44% off the Gold Label Chardonnay. Runs until May 31st. MarksandSpencer.com "We have extended the online range of our wine cases to bring you a comprehensive list of over 50 wines to choose from. All our wines are exclusive and offer great value when you buy a case of 6 or 12. Plus, you only pay one delivery charge per order, no matter how many cases you buy." Technorati Tags:...

[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: 2002 Saxum Vineyards "Broken Stones ...: Wine was in his blood, you might say. Justin, still very young by nearly anyone's standards, started Linne Calodo Cellars in 1997 with a friend, but after five years left to start his own label, Saxum Vineyards in 2002. By all accounts he has had a blockbuster beginning. With Wine Enthusiast and Robert Parker scores ranging from 93 to 95 for his initial wines produced from family vineyards, Justin has already made a name for himself and quickly sold out of his small lots of wine (approximately 450 cases).
[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: 2000 Scott Harvey Cabernet, Napa: Perfect ruby in the glass , this wine has a strongly aromatic nose of cherry candy, roses, with a hint of basil. Because the nose is so floral I wonder if there is any Cab Franc in here. The body of the wine is mellow with a nice lift in the front palate with strong flavors of cola and cherry throug the finish.
[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: Undiscovered Wines Archives: A mere 100 cases of this wine is extracted from 18 acres of prime Pinot Noir vineyard located at the mouth of the Anderson valley as it opens up to the Mendocino Coast. Known as the Oppenlander Vineyard, it is named after homesteaders with the name Oppenlander, who eked out a living on this property in the 1860's and were so isolated from the rest of the country that they and other residents at the time were able to continue growing wine grapes straight through the years of Prohibition. Interest in growing grapes in this region waned in the early part of the century, but picked up gain in the 1970s after wineries like Roederer Champagne cellars were established. According to the Oxford Companion for wine, scouts from Roederer Estate searched high and low in California for "somewhere with weather as bleak as north eastern France" and found it here.
[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: 1999 Cosentino Cabernet Franc, Napa: Mitch Cosentino is both the owner and winemaker, and talks a lot about two things: blending and punched cap fermentation, both of which he believes allow him to make distinguished wines of extremely high quality. He's certainly had enough time to practice, having started his winemaking career over 20 years ago in a rented space in Modesto, California. After moving to Napa and spending a few years selling his young grapes to larger producers, Mike struck out with his own label and hasn't looked back since.
[Info.detnews.com] Michigan Wineries Directory -- The Detroit News Online: Today, that five-acre pasture is just one small parcel of the 43-acre estate that Lucie, Dan and son Doug have planted with pinot gris, chardonnay, gewurztraminer, syrah, merlot and riesling. After selling most of those grapes to nearby Good Harbor Vineyards for nearly a decade, the Matthies family introduced their own label and opened a tasting room in the fall of 2000.
