[The Wine Spies] 2005 Dry Creek Vineyard Somers Ranch Zinfandel « The Wine Spies: Smell - On opening, the wine presents a slightly tight nose, like that which you might find on a very young wine. Allow the wine to breath for 15 minutes and your olfactory will be awarded with deep aromas of ripe blackberries, currants, raspberries, and cherries, gently layered on a base of cocoa, licorice, the softest hint of black tea and cedar

[Napa Valley Wine Blog] Hopper Creek Winery - Off Beat Napa Winery: When we approached the Hopper Creek winery, we were greeted by tasting room manager Dan Blach, working on his laptop at the winerys one and only picnic table. “Hi” he said, “we are only open by appointment so would you like an appointment for 1:00 pm?” 1:00 pm just happened to be the exact time we arrived.
[Anything Wine] PeWho? Peju! 2005 Estate Bottled Napa Zinfandel « Anything Wine: Lots of dark fruit, and fun sweet cinnamon notes on the nose, balanced with earthy pine and black tea on the palate. The acidity and firm tannins nicely complemented and helped to balance the superb richness of the wine. At $28 this wine is a bit pricey, but I think it is of comparable quality to some of the Zins in the same price range from the Dry Creek or Russian River Valleys.
[Eat. Drink. Memory.] Eat. Drink. Memory.: Picholine is perfect for special occasions: For dessert, my companion opted for savory, choosing three very different artisanal cheeses from the fabled fromage cart, while I succumbed to my sweet tooth with the Tiramisu Napoleon with Marsala Ice Cream, White Coffee Sabayon, and Coffee Glass.
[Morgan Hill Times -] Vintners clean up at national wine competition: From Solis Winery's crisp estate Fiano, which earned Best of Class, to newcomer Satori Cellars' bronze medal wining estate Cabernet Sauvignon, the Santa Clara Valley wineries offer myriad varietals and experiences to the taster looking for something different from the big name wineries of Napa and Sonoma, said Jason Goelz, wine maker and co-owner of Jason Stephens Winery on Watsonville Road
[BiteClubEats] California-que - Wine Country Dining and Restaurants: BiteClub: But like every other cuisine we've tampered with (and I might say improved upon), Californians have created a hybrid barbecue that's all our own -- California-que. Doubters might call it Faux-b-que, with the same sort of eye-roll we Bay Area folk reserve for, say, sourdough bread and Dungeness crab cakes on a menu in Branson, Missouri.
[Azalea Inn and Gardens' Blog] Sisters and Mothers Day: My sister, Sharon, surprised me with a mid-week visit to celebrate Mother’s Day. We don’t see each other often enough though she only lives a few hours away, so she and her partner, Dana, drove up from Jacksonville on Wednesday morning to share the day with me, in the absence of my own children, all living in California. They arrived about noon, and as I was still working, I sent them off to see Savannah by trolley with the promise to join up as soon as possible. I finally caught up with them close to 5 p.m. down on River Street at a local bar, sipping a brew. After helping Sharon finish hers off, our next venture of the evening was in search of a great bottle of wine and bit of food to go with. I chose a local wine bar, Bacchus, which was just round the corner from where we were.
[Beyond Napa Valley Wine Blog] Lodi ZinFest - Part 3 - Saturday | Beyond Napa Valley Wine Blog: Overall the wines did lack the complexity that I observed in some of the other Zin countries, such as Paso Robles and Dry Creek, yet nearly everything that I approached was, well, approachable and I would hesitate to recommend most wines that I tried. I look forward to trying the wines of Lodi again next year. The real kicker in the winefest was that there were quite a few non-Zin wines that were beautiful.

[Lusciouslushes's Blog] I don't taste and tell, except for you! « Lusciouslushes's Blog: I am part of a winemaking crew where I am making a Dry Creek zinfandel with a group of people, which is one of the great services Crushpad offers. We were blending our finished zin with a variety of components, and we were able to decide how we wanted our finished product to come out. Initially, we tried the control sample of our 2007 Grist Vineyard Zinfandel, which is a jammy, bright, and powerful zin. Then, we tried a control sample of some petite sirah. Once we tasted the components, we were able to think about what proportion of Petite Sirah we wanted to add to our zin, which we were hoping would add some depth of flavor, as well as a little backbone.
