Super Sexy Merlot
[the Crush Pad] While, of course, we think of Merlot’s home land as being Bordeaux, Monday’s class journey took us around the world! From a fresh, vibrant Merlot from Banrock Station (Australia) to the BIG, BOLD and Tannic Saint-Ãmilion (famous for growing Merlot in Bordeaux) the wines were so fun to taste all side by side. Some notes on a couple went from a palate of bursting fruit, saturated dirt, funky forest floor to gorgeous crushed red velvet. Merlot, being one of those grapes that makes itself around the globe pretty good, is hard to showcase in just 6 pours. Chicago Foodies: Deep in the Heart of Texas: 2005 Spicewood Merlot
[Chicago Foodies] Traditionally Merlot has been a mixing grape in Bordeaux and other southern French regions, though there are a few Bordeaux wines that are 100 percent Merlot, such as the extremely pricey Château Pétrus. For me Merlot has always been a welcome grape that is more medium-bodied than Cabernet Sauvignon.

Now Anyone Can Taste Bordeaux En Primeur
[Vinography: a wine blog] Public to purchase a ticket to engage in an activity that has for years been solely the privilege of the top trade and media representatives in the wine world. Every Spring, Bordeaux holds its En Primuer weekend, where the recently barreled young vintage of Bordeaux is trotted out and offered to the "people who matter" for tasting.

Wine Tasting Note: Riolite Scaranto Rosso, 1999, Veneto, Italy.
[Spittoon - wine drink and food.] Colli Euganei is a small region near Padua... This is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon but it is not in the Bordeaux style (as I have seen written on other websites).

Lagniappes
[amuse-bouche] Slate’s Mike Steinberger takes on that most favorite of tilting horses, the 1855 Bordeaux classification. I may blog more on this later, not because it’s such a brilliant concept but because it’s worth adding yet another voice to the fray that the 1855 rankings are completely useless and need to be given a proper burial.

2000 Chateau Ronan Red Bordeaux
[FargleSnargle.com] Blind tasting notes - no knowledge of varietal, appellation or vintage.Someone said “barnyard” and we immediately said “Bordeaux.” This wine tied my highest score for the night. I would buy this one.
