The nose was more like a merlot with some cherry and blueberries. The palate had a little bag on the start with good fruit and just the right tannins. Had hints of floral. We found it last week for $13.99 in Jungle Jim’s in a huge circus-like display of a full stable of varietals showing off the fact that Wine Spectator magazine decreed Gerard Bertrand the French Value Winery of the Year. The alcohol level tops out at 14% in this merlot. Pretty high for a French wine. The label is quite tastefully done and is easy to read (all in English.) An artificial cork in a $14 French wine? Hmmm… Straight out of the bottle, this was, uh, subdued - very French. There was little fruit to be found. ‘Twas a bit spicy (oak?) and had a hint of “barnyard”
