[WineWisdom] Australian pinot noir : WineWisdom: Exploiting the trend to cool climate chic, Tasmania's vineyard area has nearly trebled since the turn of the millennium, with in 2008, 45% of the yield coming from pinot noir. In 2000, it accounted for less than one-third.
[The Wine Front] Spring Vale Melrose Pinot Noir 2008 : The Wine Front: Spring Vale is near the eastern coast of Tasmania and its pinot noir includes five percent pinot meunier, which sounds like a good idea.
[Full Pour] Spring Vale Pinot Noir 2006 - Full Pour: Pinot Noir, indeed any wine, from the East coast of Tasmania is rare. James Halliday lists five producers in this (unofficial) sub-region, a few of which appear to be nascent operations.
[JancisRobinson.com] Landmark Australia - Day 5: The tutor for this last session of the week, James Godfrey, is one of the most experienced and committed fortified wine makers in Australia and has just completed his 32nd vintage at Seppeltsfield. Some of the greatest wines in the Seppeltsfield cellar, such as the 100-year old 1909 Para, now thickly viscous and tasting of an astonishing array of coffee, dark chocolate, fruit cake and cloves, were made well before his time, but he takes ultra seriously his role as custodian of these rare dark gems.
[Full Pour] Stefano Lubiana Primavera Pinot Noir 2008 - Full Pour: Visiting Central Otago with Chris late last year was instructive in many respects, not least in the opportunity it afforded to taste many producers' second label Pinots alongside their premium offerings. As much as I'd like to believe in the romanticism of wine and winemaking, more often than not I am struck by how calculated a particular range of wines can be.
[JancisRobinson.com] Landmark Australia - Day 4: Today's tastings focused on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The first, presented by Michael Hill Smith MW, was a very good snapshot of the evolutionary stages of this variety and the range of styles of Chardonnay now being made in different parts of Australia, defined first by region and then by winemaking practices.
[Australian Wine Review] Australian Wine Review: Stefano Lubiana Pinot Noir 2004: Try to get hold off something Tasmanian with a little age, Domaine A as you mention, Freycinet or Pipers would equally work well but for the SL Estate to be fading after only 4 years is criminal!
[ComfortWinery.com] ComfortWinery.com: 2005 Pipers Brook 'Estate' Vineyard Pinot Noir ...: Gabrio brought this fun bottle to Eric's down-under tasting -- Tasmania's weather is well suited to pinot noir since it's colder than Australia's. [Chris Shanahan] Chris Shanahan : Wine review -- Ninth Island, Toolangi, Mud House ...: But the recent arrival in Australia of Mud House gives us a decent pinot from the region at a modest (for pinot) price. Made in Marlborough from fruit grown in Central Otagos Bendigo sub-region, Mud House offers ripe, well-defined pinot flavour supported by soft but assertive red-wine tannin.

[Quaffle] Quaffle : Velo 2007 Limited Release Shiraz: but the big surprise of the day was the Shiraz. Tasmanian wine producers, being in a cold-climate wine area, tend to focus more on pinot noir and merlot in their red wines, with occasional forays into cabernet merlot blends. Shiraz is almost completely absent, and as a shiraz-loving girl, I am embarrassed to say how surprised I was. I think I tend to treat shiraz as a default wine, so its absence, however logical, surprises me. But I was not saddened: the merlot and pinot noir from Tasmania are good enough to melt your heart; they’re simply beautiful.
[Woodland Wine Merchant] New: Tasmanian Pinot Noir at Woodland Wine Merchant: This wine has the tell-tale silky texture, the wispy body, the tart-yet-plush layers of red fruit, and a hint of earthiness that reminds of the meatiness seen in the wines of fellow Southern Hemispherers South Africa. Made by Andrew Pirie, who kick-started Tasmania’s wine industry in the early 1970s, this has as much pedigree as you could hope to find from a region that’s only recently put its stamp on the wine world. As for food pairings, you could be authentic.

[Young Australian Skeptics] The shocking truth about wine | Young Australian Skeptics: I only drink reds, and my favourite at the moment would have to be Tasmanian wines.
