French waiters snobby? Mais non! C'est impossible!
[Quotulatiousness] Australian Cabernet, in common with Californian Cabernet blends, tend to the fruitier, easy-to-drink style, while French Bordeaux is a much more tannic (what the wine writers will call "structured"), and needs longer before showing all the flavours hidden in the wine.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Pejmanesque] WATER INTO WINE: From the soil of the Napa Valley, Sonoma and Santa Barbara County, California is producing not just some of the worlds finest wines, such as Opus One from the joint-venture of Robert Mondavi and Baronesse Philippine de Rothschild, but consistently drinkable, moderately priced wines from companies such as E&J.

[Wineanorak.com] Jamie's wine blog - archive: First, about just how intrinsic to the style of Grange is the use of new, untreated oak barrels, something which hadnt been tried before in Australia. [Kosherblog.net] The Kosher Blog - Seder 2005 Wine Report: The first, a 2002 Shiraz-Cabernet (55%-45%, respectively) blend (mevushal) from Kolobarra Hills of Australia (Victoria) (image from kosherwine.com)was a good match for our brisket-ish French Roast. It was interesting, though, that the wine tasted a bit off when we first tried it with the gefilte fish.
[Dougfrost.com] Doug Frost - blog history: Yet, it was slipping a few hours later and there is something about the grape Mourvedre or Cabernet and Mourvedre in this region that makes me think that the greatness of a wine such as this is a little bit of luck and the wine isn't great for much of its drinkable life.
