Gourmets of Wine > Icon Wine Scores: La Frenz Winery 2006 Shiraz - 91+pts
[Icon Wine Scores] Tasting Notes: A wonderful BC Shiraz that despite its Oz-born winemaker (Jeff Martin) and name ('Shiraz' vs 'Syrah') is made in the more subtler Northern Rhone style. Youthful aromas of dark fruits, mocha chocolate and white pepper on the nose of this dark-ruby coloured charmer.

[PALATE PRESS] Canada Dry: It ain't all icewine, baby : PALATE PRESS: Closson Chase is one of the very best (along with Long Dog, Norman Hardie, By Chadsey’s Cairn and Rosehall Run), with careful vineyard management and unabashed use of barrel-fermentation in French oak for the Chardonnays. The South Clos, priced around 40$, shows a lot of that wood, with lovely spice and vanilla complementing the buttery and white fruit aromas.
[Between the Vines] Between the Vines: Cornucopia 2009, a four-day food-and-wine ...: The Champagne, Chablis, and Brunello (numbers 1, 3, and 8) were my favourites. Saturday night found us at Crush, the weekend's huge wine-tasting .
[Grape Squeeze] Grape Squeeze » Still Swirling: I personally regularly cruise through the store coveting bottles and casting wishful thoughts around about them. Well, this is our annual opportunity to try some of them. I started everyone off with a little glass of sparkly Bastianich Flor Prosecco from Italy, and then we got down to business. The first red wine we tasted was a Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Sirah, Charbono, Grenache blend called The Prisoner from a Napa Valley, California winery named Orin Swift. What a lovely glass of lusciously friendly red fruit this was. We then progressed to the Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz from Barossa Valley, Australia which was a little blacker, spicier, and dirtier than the Prisoner was. After the Bishop we tasted the Bodegas El Nido Clio from Jumilla, Spain. This was an opulently concentrated glass of Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon blended to absolutely divine perfection with loads of fruit and spice and oak all exceptionally balanced with a finish that could be tasted even thirty minutes later. Finally, we ended the evening with a splash of Inniskillin Riesling Icewine from the B.C. Okanagan Valley. This stuff is like heavenly nectar and honeyed fruit in a glass, and is a totally decadent indulgence.

[Wine Talk The Blog] Wine Talk The Blog » Blog Archiv » TOP PICKS OF 2009: from the 2007 and 2008 vintages, I think that the wines made from Riesling showed the best. That doesnt mean that there isnt specific wines made from other grapes that are not as good as any Riesling, just that for overall quality Riesling produced more quality wines in the last 2 vintages.
[Mighty Grand Falls Blog] Mighty Grand Falls Blog: Cork-IT Wine Tasting Event: The Food: This wine has a range of fruit character and enough acidity to stand up to a wide range of foods, particularly spicy and savoury dishes, including Thai cuisine, grilled fish, herbed roast chicken or barbecued salmon. Although delicious right on bottling day, drinking it early would prevent it from showing its bestafter six months the Muscat and Vidal will dominate with spicy/grapey notes, after a year the Chenin Blancs honey and melon will come out, and at 18 months to two years the Gewürztraminer will show a perfumed floweriness and lush structure.
[The Bowen Wine Blog] Bleasdale Winery Portfolio Tasting Nov 28: Although the winery has used Malbec in its blends for some years this is their first single varietal wine produced from this grape. I scored 2 cases out of 28 shipped to BC.
[Vinifico! The Original Vancouver Wine Blog] Vinifico! The Original Vancouver Wine Blog » 1996 E&E Black Pepper ...: In my mind the big "fruit bomb" that often characterizes the Barossa and McLaren shiraz had softened out and allowed more of the subtle spices to lengthen the finish. The tannins were also much softer, but enough to last a few more years.
[Two Girls, One Cork] The Globe in Your Glass: The 2005 was the ”bigger wine of the two with stronger tannins and more pronounced flavours. Both wines are worth trying but we definitely look forward to pulling the 2005 out of the cellar in the near future to pair with a hearty winter dinner!
