http://www.gourmetsofwine.com/mondovino_insights_into_the_french_and_italian_wine_industries_-archive.html
[EuropeUpClose] In addition to examining the effects of the rapid growth of large commercial wine brands on the global wine economy, Mondovino also explores the international influence of high-profile critics and consultants such as Robert Parker (American) and Michel Rolland (French). Through conversations with small vineyard owners in France and Italy (who maintain a soulful connection to their land), the aforementioned critics and consultants (among others), wine industry middlemen in California and New York, and millionaire American winemakers in Napa, Nossiters film gets to the core of some of the major issues in todays global wine industry.]]>

Water into Wino: Uva Mira Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
http://www.gourmetsofwine.com/water_into_wino_uva_mira_merlot_cabernet_sauvignon_2005-archive.html
[Water into Wino] After passing up a $60 red from Anwilka and a $40 red blend from Meinert, I found a $20 Merlot Cabernet blend from Uva Mira. With the stars aligned for a wallet-to-bottle connection - and by stars I mean a wine labeled as Stellenbosch, a decent score by Steve Tanzer and the importer being Michael Skurnik - I brought this bottle home.]]>

Super Sexy Merlot
http://www.gourmetsofwine.com/super_sexy_merlot-archive.html
[the Crush Pad] While, of course, we think of Merlot’s home land as being Bordeaux, Monday’s class journey took us around the world! From a fresh, vibrant Merlot from Banrock Station (Australia) to the BIG, BOLD and Tannic Saint-Ãmilion (famous for growing Merlot in Bordeaux) the wines were so fun to taste all side by side. Some notes on a couple went from a palate of bursting fruit, saturated dirt, funky forest floor to gorgeous crushed red velvet. Merlot, being one of those grapes that makes itself around the globe pretty good, is hard to showcase in just 6 pours. Knowing that every corner of the world from New Zealand, South Africa and Oregon could have been part of our drinking journey –]]>

Cellar in Manahattan : : Bordeaux Wine News
http://www.gourmetsofwine.com/cellar_in_manahattan_bordeaux_wine_news-archive.html
[Bordeaux Wine News] "City Winery combines four elements : a cellar where clients can make their own wines, a concert hall with a raised stage for performers, a wine bar and restaurant, and finally a team who organise private parties or events like weddings," explains David. The place itself is on two levels (ground floor and basement), and is both spacious and elegant, like a large loft with a high ceiling, warm natural (pale wood) colours which offset the metal structure on the ceiling and provides seating for 350 people!]]>
