It's the end of the month - which can only mean...
[Spittoon - wine news and tasting notes.] As the month of May drew to a close, A culinary delight we propose...
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[mimi in NY] Hair free and Satsuma-ed: I bonded with Dolores the Manager, who confided in me that she had lost 103 pounds on the gastric-bypass diet and had recently recovered from a face lift, could you see? they'd hidden the scars really well, and I shortchanged a French tourist by 40 dollars, thus considerably increasing my tips, so all-in-all a dull, Champagne Room-free, but cashworthy day. I always marvel at my 8pm turnaround ready for the 8.30 office stop - pull off the tiny hotpants, slut hair tied up, throw on flip flops and an old pair of tatty Diesel Jeans, and step out into the warm evening, swallowed up into the midtown crowd as I wander down 7th Avenue, the only hint of my day's work the dollars still strapped around my ankle and a little too much make up. Life is good.
[Willettsonwine.blogspot.com] The Willetts on Wine: Margaret Anne has to admit she's beginning to enjoy Chilean wines, after being turned off them for many years due to unfortunate early experiences with some lower-end table wines that gave her a headache. We didn't enjoy this one as much as the earlier Casa Neuva Cabernet/Merlot we blogged about, but it was still a fine wine and we'd buy it again. (We've waited too long since drinking it to be more specific!)
[Thebroadroom.net] Beauty Blog (Archive) | A site by and for women | www.thebroadroom.net: I was wanting to try out those purple/green combos. I did an eye look with Benefit Me, Myself & I on browbones (shimmery champagne), Benefit Check's In The Mail on lids (light greyed green), and Bobbi Brown Raisin Shimmer in outer corners. I line my upper lashes with MAC Tarnish and went over the outer third of that line with the Raisin Shimmer. And I added a touch of Raisin Shimmer under the outer thirds of my lower lids.
[Day-tripper.net] Buying Champagne and wine in Calais, France - www.day-tripper.net: The areas of Reims and Epernay have been a centre of wine-making and selling since the Middle Ages. In the 17th century, apparently, a Benedictine monk (Dom Pierre Pérignon) began experimenting with a method of pressing the region's black grapes to yield white juice. In 1729, the first champagne houses opened in Reims and Epernay.
[Kqed.org] KQED Food Blog: Bay Area Bites: One of my favorite meals is champagne and pommes frites (a.k.a. french fries or freedom fries per our current administration) so I guess it's no surprise I ended up in France. Really good pommes frites, the kind that are crispy on the outside, creamy in the inside and not greasy, are extremely difficult to perfect as I can attest to destroying thousands in my humble culinary career. So when I come across perfect pommes frites, it's certainly cause for celebration.
[Tinyvital.com] French Glory: A Frenchman, an American, and a Brit were all busy getting drunk in Saudi Arabia when the cops burst in. They were soon sentenced to death, but through good lawyers, the three men were able to reduce their sentence to life. As luck would have it, it was a Saudi holiday, so the judge said, "Because it's a holiday you will each recieve 20 lashes and be let go.
