Kempton Clark, “Mad Zin” 2001

http://winecast.net [Winecast] Kempton Clark, “Mad Zin", Zinfandel, California 2001 ($11) - Garnet with purple edges, strong currant and blackberry aromas with a touch of oak, plum and blackberry flavors with firm tannins. A bit hot and raisony on the finish. Good now, but will reward a couple years in the cellar.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

http://winecast.net [Winecast] Seghesio, Zinfandel, Sonoma County 2003: Seghesio, Zinfandel, Sonoma County 2003 ($17) - Dark garnet, intense plum and current aromas with oak, jammy blackberry flavors - almost over the top ripeness at 14.9% alcohol - but somehow pulls off a nice, long finish of plum and oak. Medium tannins complete the package nicely. Delicious now

[Vinography: a wine blog] Kingston Vineyards, Casablanca Chile: Current Releases: Medium garnet in color, this wine has a gorgeously perfumed nose that is typical cool-climate Pinot Noir, with aromas of cranberry and raspberry mixed with light floral scents. In the mouth, the wine doesn't quite live up to the promise of the nose, though it provides nice flavors of raspberry, unripe plums, and herbs that transition to a slight astringency in the finish. The wine has some good structure to it, but I thought it was a little weak in the mid-palate, and wondered if this and the astringency were the result of just very young vines.

[Vinography: a wine blog] 2001 La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa: A dark garnet color in the glass, this wine clearly has high levels of glycerin that make very strong arches while the nose is full and rich with aromas of black cherry and espresso with hints of saddle leather and chocolate. In the mouth it is gorgeously lush and silky with smooth integrated tannins and strong primary fruit flavors of black cherry and a hint of blackberry that carry through to a phenomenally long finish. Wines like this effortlessly remind you why California Cabernets are so popular, and so good. While this wine will last 5 to 10 years, I think the most pleasure will be gotten out of drinking it in the next 2 to 3.

[Carolyn Tillie's Ultimate California Wine Blog] Artesa - 46: NV Artesa Select Late Harvest Gewurztraminer, San Benito County - At 9.5% residual sugar, I would have thought this wine sweeter than it was. Pale, straw-like colors do not anticipate the strikingly bright and smooth entry. Aromas of litchi and apricot do not prepare for the taste which is the pure Essence of Gewurztraminer. Surprisingly smooth and even with a silky finish.

[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: My Conversation With Robert M. Parker, Jr.: Aged 18 months in 100% new French oak from 75-year old Tempranillo vines, the 2001 Pagos Viejos is one of Spain's greatest wines. A singular red of extraordinary stature and intensity, it exhibits an inky/ruby/purple color as well as a luxurious bouquet of lead pencil shavings, black and blue fruits, espresso roast, and floral notes. This full-bodied, dense 2001 possesses layers of flavor, a sweet integration of tannin and wood, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. Drink this riveting Rioja between 2005-2015.

[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: Perfect 10s Archives: A medium ruby in the glass this wine has a complex nose with aromas of alpine strawberries, violets, cherries, pencil lead, and bits of potpourri spices (cloves, dried apples, and dried flowers). In the mouth it is fantastically smooth, with silky integrated tannins that support primary flavors of cherries and a variety mineral and crushed stone flavors that drive through to an incredibly long finish that leaves me dazzled. This is an incredibly accessible wine for its youth and perfectly balanced between its fruit flavors, acidity, and tannins -- definitely one of the best modern vintages I have had. This wine has potential to improve over 10 to 15 years.

[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: Thomas Fogarty Current Releases: Ruth and I have selected Thomas Fogarty winery as our wedding location next year, and today I went up to drop off some paperwork and start thinking about the wines I'd like to serve at the reception. Here's a rundown of what they were pouring at their tasting room this week.
