[Thank Heaven for Beer] A Tale of Two Sampler Packs | Thank Heaven for Beer: But this was not the only reason for my forsaking of the sampler…the sampler had grown stale, and was turning me off from trying many breweries whose samplers I sampled.  You see, I found that every brewery was putting their run-of-the-mill base brews in the pack, and they were coming up faulty.  The variety, was–in all actuality uniformity–a pale ale here, a brown ale there, perhaps an IPA for kicks and there you have it, the craft brewery “tantalizer.”

[Beer Tasting League] Mendocino Brewing Black Hawk Stout/Eye of the Hawk (CA): It’s just not the sort of beer you’d expect to find in one, and with the IPA, it gives it two good bigger beers alongside two nice sessionable ones.

[JustBeer: A simple beer blog...] Mendocino Brewing Black Hawk Stout « JustBeer: A simple beer blog”¦: Black Hawk Stout comes to us dark with a slight cream head.  It has a pronounced malt smell, even when cold, and it becomes even more aromatic as the beer warms up.  The body is relatively light.  No thick, syrupy brew here.  The taste is strong, but clean.  You can tell they used some nice roasted malt in there but the website also says they threw in some lighter ingredients, as well, which is why this isn’t overpowering.  A clean finish, as well, not long or lingering, but not too abrupt either.  Not super complex but not too simple.  Overall this is a fine brew, a fine STOUT, that I would definitely purchase again.

[SevenPack Beer Blog] Mendocino Black Hawk Stout: This stout isn’t as flavorful and bold as some I have had but there is a richness to it that makes it quite drinkable. There is little carbonation to speak of, just enough to let you know this is a beer rather than a very weak liquore.
