[California Golden Blogs] California-UC Davis Report Card - California Golden Blogs: mig - The kick coverage was pretty mediocre - one of Davis's kick returners averaged 25 yards per return. On the other hand, Tavecchio was sending a number of kicks behind the five yard line, Anger was averaging 49 yards per punt, and Ross was doing some awesome hurdling.
[Big Island Chronicle] Big Island Chronicle » Blog Archive » Politics ” Big Island ...: I’m almost drug free. I have a little bit of wine now and then. I was Solomon’s age when cannabis first came to me. They were passing joints. And I left. I’ve never been a smoker. I know people who smoke for medicinal purposes or socially. I myself don’t have a desire. Fore those who want to smoke marijuana, if we are going to regulate it or legalize it, it should be like alcohol. I started out as a high school teacher on the mainland. I had students whose families were using marijuana. What hit me at the point is, the attitude was, “I don’t care.” That disturbed me. My thought is, for the young people it’s something that should be at an older age, it’s something we should have a little bit more input on.
[Vineyard Vlog] Vineyard Vlog » Blog Archive » Lodi California - You Probably have ...: Lodi is struggling to lose it’s identity as a bulk-juice wine production area. Even the name Lodi Woodbridge, for me, connotes a brand name that is associated with big bottled value wines. The lay of the land is flat. There is one soil type, sandy loam, which is very fertile They have access to water for irrigation, and they are blessed with a high water table. Their climate is heavily moderated by an inland delta or the “Calinas Straits”. And on their eastern the border, they have the Sierra Mountains that bring cool air down in to the the great valley. In exchanging tasting notes with our group, there was a common thread of monotony in the wines. While the wines were good, no wines in particular jumped out and showed us something personal or indicative of the land. (something I and VineyardVlog are always on the hunt for). But please let me stress that this does not mean the wines are not good, as there were many palatable wines.
[Swirl Smell Slurp: A Wine Blog] Swirl Smell Slurp: A Wine Blog » United Slurps of America ...: I tasted it while it was still fermenting in the tank and sitting on the lees (the wine, that is, not me!) and at the time Gino told me he was trying to make something simple and really fruity and refreshing. Then, he ended up leaving on the lees so long that it gained this interesting creamy texture and more complexity. I was like “Gino…
[Yarn Harlot] Yarn Harlot: Happy New Year: As you've probably noticed from the comments, you've hit exactly the right day in terms of the Jewish calendar (also happens to be my husband's birthday this year, double celebrations) -- so let me add my wishes that you and all your loyal blog-followers will have a sweet, happy, and healthy new Year -- shanah tovah!! And break out the apple and honey (and the honey cake, pomegranates, but possibly not the sheep's head in your case!)
[The Wild Hunt] The Wild Hunt » Invoking TheurgiCon Coverage: It was a room full of mostly older folks dressed in varying ideas of LL Bean casual, coffee in hand, milling about prior to settling down to work for the day; your usual run of the mill business meeting with the usual number of computers, reference books and notated materials.
[Full Pour] Two Verdelhos - Full Pour: These sorts of wines - high alcohol, usually Shiraz, occasionally lavishly yet softly oaked - seemed to have sprung up shortly after that Mission Accomplished banner did, and it seems no mere coincidence that The Grateful Palate, Dan Philips' importing business, ceased to exist shortly after President Obama took office and not too much longer before the cessation of combat operations in Iraq. In short, I am unfairly and hopefully amusingly positing that there is an odd synchronicity at work here between the go-go Bush years, filled with foreign policy adventuring beyond anyone's wildest dreams, and the heyday of massive, plush, jammy, hedonistic wines (at this point, I am imagining someone with a distinctly non-West Coast accent spitting them into a football helmet on YouTube, for some reason), an odd crosstalk where one informs the other, a mad rush of consumption and decadence leading...
