[New York Cork Report] New York Cork Report: New York Cork Club: August Selections: And, I think this 2005 is their best yet, and I'm glad we were able to get some before they sell out. I just hand- selected the September wines yesterday, and I think you're going to love them as well...and there isn't a riesling or cabernet franc involved.

[Undertaking Wine] A One Night Stand With Finger Lakes Cabernet Franc: The winning wine that night was, Red Newt Wine Cellars 2007 “Sawmill Creek” Cabernet Franc.  It was also the most expensive of the night at $39.00.  The runner up was Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards 2007 Cabernet Franc, which is retailing at $22.00 probably would offer you the best value, while offering you decent quality.  Fox Run Vineyards 2007 Cabernet Franc/Lemberger took the bronze medal, despite the fact that this was more Lemberger than Cabernet Franc in the bottle.  It is not released yet and the 2006 vintage is selling for $15.  This could be my new everyday table wine though.  And last on the list was the Rooster Hill Vineyards 2007 Cabernet Franc.  This too is not released yet, but, will sell for about $20.00.  It was a nice wine, I just could not get past the smoky bacon.

[New York Cork Report] Valentine's Day in Long Island Wine Country: Often it's chocolate pairing -- which I think is a hugely overrated idea that ruins both the chocolate and the wine -- but that's not all that is going on.

[New York Cork Report] New York Cork Report: For Thanksgiving, Drink What You Like: Bonus Red Pairing: I think Cab Franc would make a great Thanksgiving pairing too though they are often hard to find in many wine shops as it is really only readily produced in the Loire (France) and in New York (Long Island and (to some extent) the Finger Lakes). If you have the chance to put out a Raphael Cab Franc or a Lieb Cab Franc (both from Long Island and recommended because of their sub-$20 price tags), I think you and your guests will be pleasantly surprised.
