[NileGuidance: A Travel Blog] This post brings back some great memories of a visit to Dry Creek Valley in, I think, 1996 when I was teaching about wines of California in the UK. I had two amazingly contrasting visits in this beautiful valley - both fantastic in entirely different ways.

[Wine Witch - Fantastic, Affordable Wine Suggestions] Wine Witch - Fantastic, Affordable Wine Suggestions » Blog Archive ...: I liked it - in fact quite a lot. It has a lot more complexity than most Pinot Grigios. Maybe because the grapes come from a variety of vineyards along the Central Coast and the Russion River Valley in California. The nose is floral and peachy. The predominant flavors are white peach and nectarine. There is a bit of a lemony zip that might come from the dash of Sauvignon Blanc added in. It is completely dry with a racy acidity - very fresh and crisp.
[CellarTracker Tasting Notes (other users)] 1999 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (USA ...: Every bottle just seems to improve - just a great and quintessential high-end Napa Valley cab. [The Extraordinary Wine Club] The Extraordinary Wine Club » Blog Archive » 2005 Larkmead ...: This may be because the vineyard, and certainly the winemaking, regime fell into decline in the 1970’s and 1980’s (when the rest of Napa was beginning it’s rapid ascension). But in the 1990’s Cam Baker (Katie Solari Baker’s Husband) began a vigorous vineyard and winery overhaul. He replanted nearly all of the vineyards, leaving only a rare 120 year old plot of Tocai Friuliano untouched, and began moving towards organic agriculture. The results were impressive, Larkmead fruit is now sought after for some of the best Napa wines, including Orin Swift’s The Prisoner, Covenant and Ramey’s Larkmead Vineyard Cabernet. Winemaker’s say that despite the relatively young age of the vines, there is something very special about the sight, which lies in the narrowest part of the valley, just beneath Howell Mountain (to which it’s fruit is often compared) and just South of Calistoga.

[Wine Discussion] wine: Northern California Hwy 101 wine tasting: From Ft Bragg, you have two choices - you can drop a little further south along Rt 1 to Mendocino (well worth a visit on its own, and full of great B&Bs and yummy restaurants), and then down Rt 128, through a park full of redwoods, and down through Anderson Valley wine country, which is full of a lot of wonderful wineries such as Navarro, Greenwood Ridge, Scharffenberger and others (and a brewpub as well). I would recommend this route, because you could take Rt 128 all the way back to 101 at Cloverdale, and then continue south via Sonoma, and then when you return, take 101 back through Ukiah (below).
[food, wine, beer, culture] Delicious American Pinot Noir: Roar Vineyards of Monterey County ...: Part I blame on the California wine industry, especially Napa Valley, for pricing themselves out of the wine cellars of many hard working, middle class, American wine lovers. [STEVE HEIMOFF| WINE BLOG] STEVE HEIMOFF| WINE BLOG » Blog Archive » Appellation envy ...: Santa Maria’s vineyards are deep in the valley, far away from the city, so the infrastructure that is needed could not be built on anything existing - unless you count the tiny township of Garey - which you can miss if you don’t pay attention while driving through it. Never mind that for a portion of the drive into the valley, a new visitor would be thrown off by all the row crops - unless they looked up and to the north: at the Santa Maria bench where the biggest vineyards sit.
