Gourmets of Wine > Penfold's Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet 2008: $8.99 per bottle ...
[OzBargain | New Deals, Coupons, Vouchers and Freebies] I thought Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet had turned a bit of a corner with ”06 and ”07 releases - they arent bad. This seems almost too plump and overtly fruity, at least at release, and with every winemaking trick seemingly used to make it as lifeless as possible (do Penfolds use MOx?).

[winemuse] Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six Shiraz Cabernet 2008 « winemuse: Tasting the Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet 2008 side by side with this version leaves the current KH looking a tad lacking. Rich, plush and full bodied with fresh pure red fruit enhanced by floral aromas. The Seventy Six has the fruit weight and structure for good drinking now but would last quite a few years in the cellar.

Not being a big Cabernet drinker I asked Keith from the Wine School of Philadelphia why they peppered my wine with sea salt!

This medium-bodied wine is well-balanced and lightly tannic.

[beerandwinereviews.net] Penfolds - 2007 Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet: If you’re looking for a perfectly drinkable wine that has some of the character of a Shiraz and Cabernet, this is a great pick. It’s cheap, it’s good, and it’s worth the purchase. What it isn’t, however, is something I personally plan on buying a lot of. As my first experience from Penfolds, it has certainly been good enough that I will purchase another bottle from the vineyard. But it probably won’t be this one.
[CostcoWineBlog.com - Reviews of wines found at Costco] CostcoWineBlog.com - Reviews of wines found at Costco: 2007 ...: Doesn't taste too cheapo at all, a little light in the mouth, and not the smoothest wine in the value category, but I don't think you'll be too disappointed at $8. Keep it as a casual wine for mid-week dinner, or a late night bottle, when your radar isn't up as far, and I think you'll find that this one worked just fine.
[Clear About Wine] Penfolds Luxury, Icon and Bin Releases 2010 | Clear About Wine: There are highlights even in the 2007 vintage, a season that the characteristically upbeat Penfolds PR machine describes as “a dry challenging vintage, testing everyones patience and skill.” The secret? Vast vineyard resources at Penfolds disposal and a preparedness to decimate production at the top end when the best fruit is scarce.

[Tom and Melody's wine blog] Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet (2006): The Hedges CMS is a solid Washington State blend at around $12, and Cline Zinfandel at around $9 is still enjoyable, but I have turned to Clos De Los Siete (Michel Rolland) ($16) and Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($17) as daily drinkers lately…my favorite weekend QPR is hands down the 2005 Hess Allomi Cabernet Sauvignon at around $25. The 2007 vintage is out now, and considering 2007 was a banner year in Napa, I expect no loss in quality.
[Don's Wine Flog Blog] Don's Wine Flog Blog: Penfolds Koonunga Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2002: Not a bad wine for the price, but I like wines with more smell and flavor at the start.
