[Becks & Posh] A white grape which is grown in Alsace, where it is sometimes referred to as Clevner or Klevner, and in Germany and Austria, where it is known as Weisseburgunder. In Italy it is called Pinot Bianco and is planted widely in Friuli-Venezia, the Alto Adige and the Veneto. It is the workhorse grape of Alsace, where it is used to make varietal Pinot Blanc, is part of the blend for Edelzwicker, and is increasingly the main component of Cremant d`Alsace.

[Vinography: a wine blog] 2003 St. Innocent "Freedom Hill Vineyard" Pinot Blanc, Willamette Valley, Oregon: In The Breadbox and she has decided the theme would be White Pinot. White Pinot refers to the two common mutations of the Pinot Noir grape that are cultivated with regularity: Pinot Gris and Pinot... Mark's father (his middle name, actually) the winery produces Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, PinotBlanc
[Winecast] Winecast 27 - A Tale of Two Pinots: It is from La Famiglia di Robert Mondavi of the 2002 vintage that retails for $15. This is another label from the prolific Mondavi family that was started in 1994 to, “celebrate their Italian heritage from California vineyards"; as usual, brilliant marketing The winemakers notes reveal that this wine is a blend of 98% Pinot Grigio and 2% Tocai Friulano, the top native grape from Italys Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. He also points out the fruit came from Monterey County (87%), the Los Carneros (7%), and 3% each from El Dorado and Santa Maria Valley. Thankfully, the wine did not see any oak and was not subjected to the rigors of malolactic fermentation, so I expected it to be full in fruit flavors with a nice dose of acidity making this a good match for shellfish (oysters, anyone?!)
[Carolyn Tillie's Ultimate California Wine Blog] Imagery - 86: 2003 White Burgundy - A blend of 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Blanc, and 10% Pinot Meunier produces a wine that is pale yellow in color with a combination of aromas of both pineapple and butter and hints of tropical fruit. A surprisingly sweet entry shows butterscotch but mostly it feels like a sugar-coated California Chardonnay while trying towards a French sensibility. $27.00
[Christopher Pratt (cpratt)] First draft: Wine list for tasting at Salmonberg: Hmm, I have no idea about most of the wines on your list (and am therefore particularly wishing I were able to taste them with you). Interesting choice for the Cabernet Sauvignon (Bin 56) as it's a Cab/Malbec blend of some distinctiveness. Maybe a New World Bordeaux blend like the Leconfield Cabernets (or even Clonakilla Cab Merlot) could also work there.
[Scienceblog.com] Science Blog -- DNA fingerprinting reveals surprise in wine-grape ...: Meredith and her research group have been working for several years on genetically characterizing grape varieties so that California grape growers and vintners can be certain of which varieties they have. Two years ago, in the course of studying major wine-grape varieties maintained in the UC Davis vineyards, they discovered that the highly esteemed Cabernet Sauvignon wine grape is the offspring of the Cabernet franc and Sauvignon blanc varieties.
[Basicjuice.blogs.com] basicJuice: Attack of the Clones: Now that we have the grape variety concept all squared away in our minds, lets scramble our brains again. Youve seen wine labeled “Pinot Noir” before, correct? What about wine labeled “Pinot Grigio” or “Pinot Gris?” “Thats easy.” You say. “They are just different varieties.” Not so fast, Einstein. Technically speaking, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris/Grigio are the same grape variety. Pinot Gris/Grigio is simply the mutant clone of Pinot Noir. Huh?
[Vinesugar.com] Frequently Asked Wine Questions: Blanc de blanc means white from white - or white Champagne from a white grape. By law, blanc de blancs can only be made from a single grape variety, Chardonnay. While it is somewhat counterintuitive to make Champagne from a single kind of grape, blanc de blancs have become very popular as an apértif due to their light, dry taste. They are also ideal for light first courses including seafood and soups.
[Fermentations.blogspot.com] FERMENTATIONS is now here: HTTP://WWW.FERMENTATIONS.TYPEPAD.COM: A ...: It struck me that what would essentially be a move toward the French AOC model of wine regions being devoted nearly entirely to one or two varietals was in fact anti-American. I was arguinig that the Zinfandel, planted next to Cabernet, planted next to Chardonnay, planted next to Pinot Noir was a reflection of America's inbred inclination toward diversity and it would be a terrible thing to lose this in favor of a regional monoculture.
[Graperadio.com] Grape Radio » Blog Archive » GrapeRadio - Movie Review: Sideways: When he was with her a fine wine like Cheval Blanc was something to share. California Merlot has had a bad name even before the movie. Some of the best wines in the world are Merlot, but some of the worst are too. The average guy started buying California Merlot in the 90s and maybe the average wine snob “wanna be” started disdaining soon after that to distinguish himself from the average guy.
