Ravenswood, Zinfandel, Sonoma County 2002

http://winecast.net [Winecast] Ravenswood, Zinfandel, Sonoma County 2002 ($20) - Garnet, blackberry nose, rustic fruit flavors with firm tannins, opens up a bit after some time in...

[Travel Blogo - Breaking News] Aaahh, Spas..."A Very Nice Feeling.": In addition to naturally heated, 82-degree outdoor swimming pools, guests at the Inn can enjoy tennis, hikes, golf, horseback riding and sightseeing. You can take a drive down Artist's Drive, a one-way road that meanders through magnificent washes, mud hills and exotic rock formations or up to Dante's View that gives a view of Badwater and Death Valley from 5,425 feet above the Valley's below-sea-level floor. For centuries, European and Oriental royalty paid premium prices to enjoy the solace, relaxation and soothing therapeutic rewards of hot mineral baths. As their benefits became more widely recognized, however, more and more people traveled long distances to "take the waters." Known to have the only 100% pure alkaline mineral waters in Los Angeles, the soothing and sparkling pools of Beverly Hot Springs offer those delightful rewards. The waters in this natural thermal spa gush from a natural artesian well beneath the earth's surface.

[An Obsession with Food] Damn Good Duck Confit: His recipe, like many, uses duck legs, but I substituted some magret de moulard I had in my freezer. Magret is the breast of a bird that has been force-fed for foie gras, and Moulards are the dominant breed of duck in foie gras production. This particular breast was from the Artisan Foie Gras label of Sonoma Foie Gras. The Artisan ducks get cooked corn instead of raw and they are "cold eviscerated", or slaughtered, then cooled overnight, and then processed.

[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: 2001 Campion Pinot Noir, Edna Valley: Yep, not farmyard or dirt, though it has some elements of both, but like the sweating frothy back of a well run horse. This can be a bit alarming, especially for those who like their Pinots to smell like rasberries, but if you embrace it, and move past, you are in for a wine with a unique and strong personality. In addition to the aforementioned aromas, you will also get some tar, and a little cherry as you tip back the glass. In your mouth, the wine is something else entirely -- tart rasberry and subdued black cherry flavors mixed with with floral and dark tea and cedar elements.

[Vinography.com] Vinography: a wine blog: April 2004 Archives: It's no surprise that Peter Michael Winery would be delivering one of the better 2001 reds on the market (incidentally the lowest score that any of the Peter Michael wines received this year was a 91 from Parker), given the history of top winemakers that have been historically tapped as consultants to Sir Peter Michael (Starting in the 80's with Helen Turley and including such luminaries as Mark Aubert and Vanessa Wong, as well as the current winemaker Luc Morlet). Of course Sir Peter started with good raw materials -- his estate is perhaps one of the best examples of what you can do in the name of winemaking when money is no object: a gorgeous estate and winemaking facility in Knights Valley on Mount St. Helena, an obsessive focuse on single vineyard designate wines made from grapes picked and sorted by hand, and a commitment to small productions.

[Carolyntillie_ultimate_california_wine_blog.typepad.com] Carolyn Tillie's Ultimate California Wine Blog: Pine Ridge Winery - 27: 2000 Andrus Reserve - Another "proprietary" blend of the Bordeaux varietals all planted in the Rutherford appellation. Dark, rustic flavors of roasted coffee and oak fill the bouquet and anticipate flavors of mocha in the mouth. A slight vanilla finish which was long and predicted a wine which would age well.

[Carolyntillie_ultimate_california_wine_blog.typepad.com] Carolyn Tillie's Ultimate California Wine Blog: Napa - Stag's Leap ...: Before I moved to the Napa Valley, I would drive up on three- and four-day weekends from Los Angeles.  Robert Sinskey Vineyards was one of my favorite wineries during every visit. This is the bain of the neophyte visitor -- you find a great place and it is hard to move on to discover other great places, but always happy and satisfied knowing an old friend is there for you. I was initially drawn to Sinskey because of a friend's invitation, but have gone back many times because of their Pinots.

[Professorbainbridgeonwine.com] Professor Bainbridge on Wine: Ridge Mazzoni Home Ranch (Sonoma ...: Ridge long has been one of my favorite wineries. This Sonoma County wine was part of Ridge's Advanced Tasting Program, which is their program of limited release wines available only by joining their mailing list. The Mazzoni is a blend of 47% zinfandel, 47% carignane, and 6% petite sirah. The color is a deep purple shading to ruby.
