A New Zealand Chardonnay Classification « Doubtless WineThink
[Doubtless WineThink] The thing is that if grown with care, not over-cropped or over-ripened, and then made with restraint (not over-oaked or handled) by winemakers, Chardonnay can be one of the most emphatic varietal portrayers of its terroir (not unlike that other oft-misunderstood grape, riesling). Perhaps what chardonnay and riesling also have in common is abuse by larger volume wine producers who seem to believe that consumers are only interested if these wines fit into a specific profile with upfront fruit and sweetness on the palate - styles of wine that set out to remove their intrinsic and unique qualities.

Dessert wines with... guacamole!?
[Spittoon - wine news and tasting notes.] With so many delicious wines at the tasting - 16 in all ranging from Sybille Kuntz 1999 Riesling Beerenauslese through to Xavier Clua 2002 Millenium Dolc - coupled with excellent food - foie gras, Wensleydale with cranberries through to chocolate ganache and guacamole - trying to sort out the 'perfect' match to each wine got a little tricky. The Campbells Rutherglen Muscat didn't work with the green stuff but would the spicy edge of the Rosenblum Late Harvest Viognier work better than the Fairview La Beryl Blanc?

[Spittoon - wine news and tasting notes.] "Taylors Jaraman Riesling 2004 won the trophy for Best Australian Riesling and the Taylors Jaraman Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 won the trophy for Best Australian Bordeaux varietal at one of the worlds most prestigious wine shows, managed by the globally influential Decanter magazine. The panel of judges is possibly the most prestigious in the world with the noted British author Stephen Spurrier acting as Chairman and the Australian regional chairman being Michael Hill Smith MW."
