Le Chat Noir Shiraz Viognier 2009 : The Wine Front
[The Wine Front] This is a blend of 97 percent Aude Valley (France) shiraz co-fermented with 3 percent viognier. The shiraz (and I like that they call it shiraz) is grown on vines that are now 30 years old.

Penfold's Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet 2008: $8.99 per bottle ...
[OzBargain | New Deals, Coupons, Vouchers and Freebies] I thought Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet had turned a bit of a corner with ”˜06 and ”˜07 releases - they aren’t bad. This seems almost too plump and overtly fruity, at least at release, and with every winemaking trick seemingly used to make it as lifeless as possible (do Penfolds use MOx?).

[The Wine Front] That said, I was in Margaret River in January/February 2008 and it was cloudy and cool then - and the 2008s turned out good too. So maybe the region is just good for growing wine grapes, full stop.

[The Wine Front] I’d finished two full glasses of this 2008 By Farr Shiraz before I worked out what was making it taste odd. I thought it was the musky oak and then I thought it was the (trademark) Farr stalkiness.
