Solar-Powered Wine
[sustainablog] From Treehugger, news of several California wineries making the switch to solar power. Between state grants and the inevitable savings on power, these vinters are finding that they can recoup the rather large initial outlays in as few as eight years.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[6-4-2.blogspot.com] 6-4-2 -- an Angels/Dodgers double play blog: Nominally, the argument goes, the Marlins get to see the horrible Devil Rays for six games or so a year, while the Dodgers see the Angels (who have been fairly evenly matched over the years), the Giants see the A's, and the Yankees get the reliably putrid Mets (though not so much this year). Carminati goes on to calculate those postseasons affected by interleague play, noting in particular that interleague play in 2002 resulted in an Angels record of 11-7, versus the Red Sox record of 5-13, thus showing it had an effect on the final outcome of the season.
[256.com] Gray Watson's Blog -- November, 2004: Yet another weblog. Solar powered radio Very cool youth project making solar panels in a Kenya slum.
[Uky.edu] Rural Blog archive October 2004: A week ago, The Rural Blog reported that the mobilization of evangelical voters was broader and more organized than ever, and quoted a religious critic of the Religious Right as saying the effort is “unparalleled in its energy, its sophistication and its stealth nature.” We’re not saying it’s stealthy, but we do not think political activity among people of faith, on both the right and left, has been covered as much as it should have been at the grass roots -- by community media who know the landscape and have the best access to churches and other religious groups.
[Planetizen.com] PLANETIZEN: Radar: Between state grants and the inevitable savings on power, these vinters are finding that they can recoup the rather large initial outlays in as few as eight years. One of these wineries, Shafer Vinyards, is also making the move to organic agriculture along with their solar venture, so you can raise a glass of one of their vintages and know that your wine isn't just red or white -- it's also green.
[Gusalmighty.com] Gusalmighty.com: A Leaded Perspective: Oh, but it could be, couldn ...: Put so simply, I found myself rather disgusted with the former position. I wholly support the principles of efficiency espoused by the conservative sector of society and generally belief that a freer market is more robust and efficient that one heavily burdened by regulations or central planning.
