[Damons Blog] infantile tastes (“easy to drink wines”) and who favor oak to “terroir”(the earthy tastes in many French wines) are changing the plan wines are made forever. It seems the minute wineries are being bought out by the spacious corporations, synthetic methods are old, everyone is creating a McDonalds Bic Mac wine that is predictable, doesn’t need ageing, and caters to wine critic Robert Parker’s personal tastes and biases (he loves the large California wines so the Europeans are emulating that model.)

[Not My Tribe] Mondovino: globalization and terroir, Robert Parker versus your ...: For those with a curiosity for how wine terroir is holding up against the onslaught of wine factory farming, the 10-hour miniseries version of MONDOVINO is finally available on DVD. For viewers curious about viniculture globalization under Californian colonial domination, the original feature length documentary delivers, with a long finish.

[GrapeRadio - Wine Talk Show] GrapeRadio - Wine Talk Show » Blog Archive » Alice Feiring on Wine: I like some CA wine, but their vintages really don’t change much so that’s kind of a blessing and a curse, and to contrast that with say Burgundy, Bordeaux, or CdP (and in the states, Oregon and Virginia come to mind) the variability can be huge and it forces winemakers to stay on their toes and be plugged in to what is happening around them. IMO, it is the lazy winemakers that have to resort to altering their wine to have something salvageable when they ignored mother nature or neglected their vines.

[Mattura Blog] Argentina's Growing Wine Regions « Mattura Blog: Just across the Andes, Chile had made a big mistake by consciously crafting well-made but generic Cabernets and Merlots for the American market: wines that were a notch cheaper than the competition’s but evoked nothing of Chile, or anywhere else. Argentina’s wines used to have an excessive sense of place””you’d pick them out on first whiff, like rotten eggs””but I hoped that the outside influences hadn’t pushed them too far toward that same paucity of soul.

[Mark's Wine/Family/Business Blog] Mondovino-A review « Mark's Wine/Family/Business Blog: I understand that this is going to be a major concern with wineries, but I have to admit that almost every wine drinker I know from the serious to the casual, seem to have similar tastes to Parker. If he were constantly rating wines highly that the wine consuming public didn’t like, then he would lose his following rather quickly and people would pay more attention to other publications which the filmaker seems to leave out for the most part, with a small reference of Wine Spectator and their 2M+ yearly readers.

[The Amateur Wino] The Amateur Wino » Blog Archive » Wines from Argentina: my top ...: Like many budget-minded consumers, my experience with Argentinean wines was pretty much limited to affordable malbecs.  And of course, this tasting gave me a chance to try many malbec-based wines (over 30 of them) in one sitting to suss out the best of them- but it also exposed me to a white wine varietal widely grown in Argentina called torrontés, as well as a chance to taste other varietals being grown in Argentina including bonarda, cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and petit verdot.

[STEVE HEIMOFF| WINE BLOG] STEVE HEIMOFF| WINE BLOG » Blog Archive » When David slays Goliath: It is true, that for the lay person, quality perception based on raw enjoyment of the wines can bring into question why pay for these other “great wines”. Fortunately we do have professional tasters who can qualify the quality of wines such as Mouton so that these wines will continue to be made and not lost to continued match-ups such as this one.

[Fermentation: The Daily Wine Blog] Fermentation: The Daily Wine Blog: A Fascinating Cri De Coeur Over ...: A colleague of mine suggests that Atkin's emotional outburst is really just a follow up to Jonathan Nossiter's similar outburst in "Mondovino", which itself was a completely uninformed piece of media that mistook the prominent and distorting qualities of the unique American Three Tier System for a problem with Parker's power.
