[Miles.burke.id.au] Miles Blog - Thoughts and errata from Miles Burke.: So, with little fanfare, fresh off the walls of Perth, here are the Colours of Graffiti 2006, a 43kb JPG file with approximately 70 colours to get your creative juices flowing. Let me know if you use it for a design, I’d be keen to see the end result!
[Appellation Australia] What does a $2 Cleanskin taste like?: The $15 wine was purchased last year and is a 2001 Cabernet Merlot from Margaret River, the $2 wine was purchased this week from Dan Murphy’s and is a 2006 Cabernet Merlot South East Australian blend with code WE3. Despite the difference in age, I still feel it is a valid comparison of two wines that you can walk into a store and buy at similar periods of time at the different price points.
[Wino sapien] Selling wine - first @ 33000 feet and then on... : A couple of weeks back, I wrote about 187ml bottles and how I enjoyed a very good Margaret river cabernet blend whilst flying with Qantas. I had some interesting feedback, including some emails from a Qantas insider.
[Appellation Australia] More hijinks in Canberra: Lots going on with the lovely nose - black cherry, earth, forest floor (I learnt a new descriptive French wine term on the night - “valley of the hare”) stalks, some beetroot, spice and honey. Superb length, great depth of fruit and fine walnut flavoured tannins.
[Vinosense] Big couple of weeks”¦.: Chefs included Maggie Beer, Damien Pignolet, Antonio Carlucci and Michel Roux and on the wine side Didier Seguier from William Fevre, a bunch of mad Kwi wine-makers for the Sauvignon Blanc masterclass, what seemed like the entire Alverez Diez clan from Vega Sicilia and my boss did the Langtons Classification Exceptional tasting on the Saturday with Stuart Gregor and I did the Sunday session with James Halliday. Our masterclass comprised of Leeuwin Arts Series Chardonnay 2003, Giaconda Chardonnay 2002, Bass Phillip Reserve Pinot Noir 2003, Mount Mary Cabernet Sauvignon 2001, Cullen Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon 2003, Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, Rockford Basket Press Shiraz 2003, Wendouree Shiraz 2002, Henschke Hill of Grace 2001 and Penfolds Grange 2001….a pretty smart line-up.
[Wino sapien] Pierro Chardonnay 2004: Margaret river, Western Australia Screwcap. Source: Friend Pale. Lovely nose, verging on citrus. Smoke. Apple. Crisp and full in the mouth, essence like texture, long and slightly unctuous finish. Polished and showing great potential. More refined and approachable than the versions from the late 90's. Very good - excellent. Drink Now -
[Appellation Australia] Wine Australia 2006 - Ten To Check Out: Wine Australia is this coming weekend in Sydney and with hundreds of exhibitors, even those of us who are going on all four days will probably not get to see all the producers on show.
[Vinosense] Petaluma Summertown Chardonnay 2002: “The geological maps Croser was using suggested that the nine separate vineyards he eventually planted were on moderately weathered shales and siltstones between 450 and 500 million years old, overlain by lightly podsolised red-brown earths (meaning that they have been acidified by leaching). It was only after he had planted the vineyards and begun tasting the results with Chardonnay over a decade or so that he started to suspect that all might not be what it seemed.
