http://manageyourcellar.blogspot.com [Purple Liquid: a wine and food diary] Jens suggested some other wine regions like Chile, Spain, Australia and New York, as “a great opportunity to explore an old varietal in some new locations and then compare them to the usual suspects.” Being in an Italian mood these days (and if Spain is in the list, why not Italy?), It seemed to me that Pinot Nero, a type of wine that is still largely undervalued and unknown, would fit the definition perfectly.

For those who are interested I would recommend to try German Spätburgunder from the Ahr region (most famous producer is Jean Stodden).

Vinography: a wine blog[Vinography: a wine blog] WBW #14 Announced: New World Pinot Noir: Jens doesn't just mean New World (traditionally anywhere but France) but Brand Spanking New World which he says means anywhere but France AND the West Coast of the United States. So that means we're left with New Zealand, South Africa, England, Australia, Chile, New York State, Spain, and a smattering of other tiny places that are edging in on the French and Calif-Oreg-Wash Pinot Noir empires.

Over the last few months I have seen Pinots from Chile, Spain, Australia (of course), New York, but I am sure there are some out there from places I haven't seen.
