„ADCo is both successful and profitable and has grown from a small distributor with 5% market share to perhaps 20% today. During that time the number of wine distributors has grown from 6-7 to over 50 independent, niche wine distributors, the “ponytails distributors” are doing fine. There are more wine labels available today, with better wine at lower prices, more distributors in WA than ever, how can you say that it translates into “less choice” for the customer.“http://www.wineoffensive.com/blog/slogging-the-grog/southern-wine-and-crap/ - Cached

„Last summer Virginia wineries lost the right to self-distribute. Quickly wineries either made plans with distributors or just stopped their whloesale practice. Signing on with a distributor, especially when you don't have economy of scale like most new winery start-ups, eats into, if not devours, profit margins. Also, a producer/distributor contract is literally tighter than marriage, and an unhappy relationship can lead to a failed winery business with no chance for divorce.“http://cpwine.blogspot.com/ - Cached

„The cons are that regional distributors are typically wine only and don’t have economies of scale, so their costs are higher and their margins are lower. This means their sales force will be smaller and their focus will only be on the most profitable markets (think Southwest Airlines). Regionals have no leverage with on premise accounts (”If you want your Jim Beam you have to take a case of Geyser Peak buddy”) like the nationals do.“http://www.pinotblogger.com/2006/07/21/distribution-cont-oiv-day-10/ - Cached

„These wines are typically of better quality, a lot more interesting, and more often than not, less expensive than the big brands. (someone has to pay for all of that advertising) We search out wines from all over the world and deal with even the smallest distributors so that we can deliver the best quality wine for the dollar. We like to say that we offer big store prices but small shop service ...“http://manoavino.typepad.com/mano_a_vino_montclair/2007/.../ new_wine_store_.html - Cached

„The Coalition for Fair Wine Laws is a collective of Ohio's wine suppliers, distributors, retailers, and restaurateurs. Their main goal is to remove the minimum mark-up of 33.3% required of all wine wholesalers, which results in inflated prices relative to the rest of the country. They also want to repeal Ohio's franchise requirements, which they say restricts competition and limits consumer choice.“http://www.bottlenose-wine.com/blog?blogid=550 - Cached
„When you get right down to it, these tastings are done for the benefit of the DISTRIBUTORS, though the events are always couched as a “wonderful opportunity to explore all that the wine world has to offer under one well-appointed roof” or some other similar drivel. These events allow the distributors to taste scores of people on a single bottle that is most often paid for by the producer him or herself ...“http://terroir.winelibrary.com/ - Cached
